Project meeting at the biorefinery plant in Örnsköldsvik

From the 14th to the 16th of May, RISE Processum in Örnsköldsvik hosted the second physical MaRefine project meeting. The attending group visited the Domsjö biorefinery and had a focused workshop on how the establishment of wood biorefineries can be translated into blue context in terms of industrial ecosystems, lessons learned and potential business models.

New MaRefine postdocs at Chalmers University of Technology

In January, postdoc Gabriele Beltrame started in Prof. Ingrid Undeland’s group. Gabriele is developing new fractionation methods for seaweed to co-recover proteins and polysaccharides alongside other high-valuable molecules as peptides or pigments. And In March, SuriyaPrakaash Lakshmi will start as a postdoc in Assoc. Prof. Mehdi Abdollahi’s group, focusing on the fractionation and recovery of collagen and collagen peptides from mainly salmon residual streams.

Nordic Seafood Summit 2025

On the 22nd of January, MaRefine participated at the Nordic Seafood Summit in Gothenburg. Prof. Ingrid Undeland and Markus Andersson Trojer gave two presentations during the side event “the blue gold”. The value of valorising seafood side streams, recent innovations, and missing technological gaps were discussed with an audience comprised of the private sector (fishery and seafood processing industry), municipalities and academia.
